Key Responsibilities:

JOB DESCRIPTION FOR THE HIV PREVENTION ASSISTANT

Relevant knowledge of the job

  1. Conduct targeted mentorship and support supervision based on clearly identified needs along the HTS cascade, pediatric and adolescent HIV care cascade as well as the PMTCT cascade.
  2. Monitor the implementation of interventions for targeted identification of HIV exposed infants, HIV infected children, adolescents, adults, pregnant and breastfeeding mothers
  3. Monitor successful linkage into care of newly identified clients. Mentor health workers in provision of quality and comprehensive HIV counseling services to clients and their partners, and other family members, communities and partners.
  4. Monitor the implementation of strategies for retention in care of HIV exposed infants, HIV infected children and adolescents, HIV positive pregnant and breastfeeding mothers
  5. Monitor the implementation of strategies to improve viral load coverage and suppression rates among HIV positive children, adolescents, pregnant and breastfeeding women.
  6. Monitor the implementation of the integrated community service delivery model for children, adolescents, pregnant and breastfeeding mothers living with HIV.
  7. Monitor the Integration and implementation of Quality Improvement (QI) for pediatric & adolescent HIV services, PMTCT services and continuously provide feedback on pediatric & adolescent service improvement.
  8. Scale up utilization of the CALHIV and PMTCT audit tool
  9. Strengthen collaboration with CSOs, OVC partners to have harmonized implementation of strategies to improve pediatric and adolescent HIV care and PMTCT services.
  10. Write and submit periodic reports to supervisor.
  11. Conduct weekly data reviews to identify service gaps and poorly performing health facilities for support.
  12. Support establishment and maintenance of Provider Initiated Counseling and testing (PICT) corners at all health facilities
  13. Coordinate and support health workers to plan and implement HIV preventions interventions for key and priority populations.
  14. Support health facilities in setting up peer support groups and facilitating the support group meetings for special populations of people living with HIV

Education, Key Competencies and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in any of the following fields; Social Sciences, Education, SWASA, Development Studies, Community and Adult Education, Community Psychology, Guidance and counseling or  BSc. Nursing/midwifery
  • Evidence of having attended HIV Counseling Courses lasting at least one month.
  • Active registration with the relevant professional body.
  • At least 1 year experience in HIV counseling in a busy clinical setting
  • Mentorship, Counseling, and Communication skills
  • Computer skills
  • Must be willing to travel and provide care services at  selected health facilities and outreaches
  • Willingness to work and live in rural areas is required
