Research Training Coordinator for Schulich Uganda Program – Joint Clinical Research Centre (JCRC)

Job Summary:

The Research Training Coordinator for Schulich-Uganda collaboration is responsible for managing core teams in providing required support and related services through identification of various needs, develop and participate in conduct of appropriate training and mentorship/research exchange programs. He/she shall provide leadership in developing training tools, materials, communication tools, travels for trainees to and from Uganda, trainees’ terms of reference and evaluate impact of the collaboration activities. He /She shall work in close collaboration with project staff at Western, JCRC and any other implementing partners and the relevant Ministries in Uganda.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Overall leader in managing the logistics, finances, ensure compliance with reporting requirements and activity timelines of the collaboration.

2. Work with the JCRC Executive Director to lead in organizing and taking minutes for collaboration meetings, ensuring that meetings take place as scheduled, following up action items and ensure safe custody of collaboration documents

3.   In charge of planning and writing progress reports for the collaboration and shall be the first contact person for the Schulich-Uganda Program collaboration at JCRC.

4.   Work with Western University relevant person and the JCRC Executive Director to maintain updates on project progress, partner contact information, project web portal and other project data-sharing platforms.

5.   Assist the JCRC Executive Director to provide financial oversight and any required financial reporting to Western.

6.   Monitor collaboration expenditures and, together with the relevant finance person at JCRC, prepare disbursements, any required accountabilities, and annual budgets as may be guided by the JCRC Executive Director.

7.   Participate in review of collaboration draft educational materials, protocols, training manuals, communication strategy, newsletters, and brochures.

8.   Participate in development of annual work-plans addressing training and mentorship/research exchange needs for the collaboration.

9.   Plan, coordinate and monitor trainee placement /research exchange program in Uganda and maintain  timely communication  and  updates  to  Western  University lead  person  for  the collaboration as may be directed and guided by the JCRC Executive Director

10. Provide  support  to  the  international  trainees/fellows  that  come  to  Uganda  through  the collaboration.

11. Participate in identification, writing and submitting grant applications that aim at expanding research training and research exchange programs for the collaboration.

12. In charge of scheduling, reminding and coordinating: meetings, appointments and travel arrangements for all Western – JCRC collaboration personnel.

13. Participate in submitting as well as tracking of progress of requests for: supplies/purchases, funds and services ordered within the overall JCRC framework.

Qualifications:

1.   Bachelor’s degree in education, medicine, public health or social science discipline from a

recognized institution of higher learning.

2.   Masters degree in Education, Public Health, Business Administration and other related fields is added advantage

3.   Must have excellent communication skills, both oral and writing skills.

4.   Must possess training skills and experience necessary to analyze training.

5.   At least 5 years’ experience managing research training programs.

6.   At least 5 years’ experience in relevant activities including relating to funding agencies, coordinating multi-site /country programs reporting, and collaboration program management.

7.   Ability to identify and participate in research training grants application.

8.   Ability to plan, budget, monitor, and report on different collaboration activities.

9.   Should have advanced computer skills, particularly spreadsheets & data bases.
