Regional WASH Delegate (East Africa) – Austrian Red Cross

Background

The Austrian Red Cross (AutRC) is looking for an experienced and highly motivated regional WASH Delegate for Eastern Africa. AutRC’s engagement builds on localization, impact and enhanced cooperation with partners from the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. Addressing emerging needs related to climate change, gender equality and the Triple Nexus is key for a succesful and future oriented WASH portfolio. The regional WASH delegate will support WASH capacity strenghtening and innovation to East African Red Cross National Societies, particulary focusing on Ethiopa, Uganda and Rwanda.

Job Description

• Providing technical advice, support and oversight to AutRC WASH projects in the region
• Strenghtening and scaling AutRC strategic objectives through identifying funding opportunities and innovative approaches to WASH
• Contributing to strategic planning of AutRC long-term engagement in East Africa as well to overall programme coordination in the East Africa region
• Representing AutRC in East Africa with a focus on WASH, networking and liaising with movement partners as well as national, regional and international stakeholders
• Strenghtening WASH capacities in the National Societies, amongs other conducting Emergency WASH trainings and leading on integrating gender equality and women empowerment in WASH operations on various levels
• Providing specific country WASH support to Uganda, particularly in refugee settelements focusing on a Triple Nexus approach (bridging Peace Buidling, Development and Humanitarian Interventions)
• Close coordination with local Red Cross partner teams in the HQs and field as well as with AutRC Vienna based project manager and WASH technicians

Requirements

• University or similar education in civil engineering or WASH
• At least 5 years experience in the WASH sector – long term and emergency response
• Additional experience in other WASH fields, e.g. faecal sludge management, women equality in WASH and hygiene promotion is a strong asset.
• Experience in WASH projects within the Red Cross Movement is a strong asset
• Experience in general project management and financial management of projects
• Experience in East Africa is an asset
• Valid driving license is an asset
• Ability to work under pressure in a diverse team
• Very good English verbal and written communication skills, German and local Uganda languages are an asset
• Strongly motivated by humanitarian and development work, and high sensitivity to diversity and local culture

Working time: full-time

Compensation: min € 4.055.- (gross/month) depending on qualification and experience
