1. Manager Testing
Reporting to the Deputy executive Director- Standards, the senior position takes responsibility for formulating (developing) and implementing strategies for
scientifically determining products compliance to the quality, safety and
performance standards through offering laboratory-testing services to both
internal and external clients.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and continuously monitor policies, procedures and other guidelines
for the analysis/testing of samples and dissemination of test results
Design, implement and continually improve the management system for
quality, administrative and technical operations of testing laboratories
Maintain an annual inventory of facilities in the department and control the
efficient use of resources
Spearhead the process of seeking and maintenance of laboratory
accreditations for the various laboratories, which will lead to worldwide
acceptance of test results to facilitate trade.
Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual reports on activities of the
department and progress on implementation of work plans
Maintain good relations between the Department and its clients and see to it
that testing services are in line with client needs and demands/requirements
Coordinate department staff performance and drive their productivity
through ensuring that targets, plans and outputs are achieved within set
schedules and budgets.
Take Responsibility for ensuring staff Development, engagement and growth
in line with UNBS Policies and Procedural frameworks.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
o The ideal candidate should possess a Master’s Degree in science or other
science related qualifications relevant to UNBS mandate, from a reputable
and recognized University/Institute
o Possession of Honours degree in science or other science related
qualifications from a reputable and recognized University/Institute
o At least nine (9) years in standards, Metrology or Conformity assessment
Systems of which five (5) years are in Supervisory role
o Demonstrable knowledge of national, regional and international
standardization work
o Membership to a recognized professional body relevant to UNBS Mandate is
an added advantage.
o Proven people leadership and functional management competencies with
hands-on skills in Risk Management and internal controls functional areas
o Training in a Management field is an added advantage
o Computer literacy skills i.e. proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and
the Internet applications among others.
o Proven Analytical skills
o Good planning, monitoring and evaluation skills
o Strong Communication, negotiating, presentation and interpersonal skills
o High level of integrity and professionalism
o Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with multiple
stakeholder
o Age: Between 35 and 55 years
