SPOUTS of Water LTD is a for-profit social business that manufactures and sells the Purifaaya™ ceramic water filters and distributes rocket stove technology. SPOUTS was created in Uganda in 2014 with the simple idea that ceramic water filters could be made and sold locally, providing an amazingly effective product through a sustainable business model. SPOUTS is currently the largest ceramic water filter manufacturer in Africa.

Since SPOUTS sold its first Purifaaya in 2015, it has distributed 130,000+ filters to East Africa providing over 650,000 end-users with long-term access to safe drinking water. SPOUTS is a rapidly-growing organization with over 500 employees across Uganda and Rwanda. The next step is to expand its operations throughout East, West and Southern Africa.

Job Title Inventory Coordinator – Uganda
Location SPOUTS Factory (Nakawuka)
Reports To Production Manager
Special Conditions Some travel will be required between the SPOUTS head office, the factory in Kampala and other regions of duty in response to the demands of work

Duties and responsibilities:

Ensures timely and adequate availability of materials needed for production of the ceramic water filters to ensure that finished goods are available as per planned shipment schedules.

Managing supply.

  • Stock supply management system by planning and forecasting demand.
  • Supplier’s coordination i.e., coordinate with suppliers to highlight discrepancies in quality and amounts of supplies.
  • Materials ordering & receiving i.e., conduct quality checks on all materials brought to the factory.
  • Store and release material for production use; ensure that all the quantities of supplies and raw materials needed for use in the production line are issued on time.
  • Cost control checks i.e., ensure that the day-to-day production activities are run within the budget.

Managing shipments/deliveries

  • Planning and scheduling of deliveries; ensure that a delivery time line is met for all finished goods to the clients.
  • Loading and delivery of finished goods; coordinate with other departments to ensure that finished good are loaded and delivered to their respective localities.
  • Coordinate the filter factory sales and deliveries for walk-in customers and issuing of the necessary documentation.

Inventory records management.

  • Stock counts and reconciliation; coordinate physical stock counts and report stock count levels daily.
  • Data analysis i.e., correctly interpret data for example gap analysis in order to reach to a sound and logical conclusion.
  • Inventory data systems and implementation i.e., ensures that all data systems/tools are used as per set standard without any compromise.

Team’s Performance Management.

  • Facilitate in personnel trainings i.e., carry out or participate in trainings of production staffs.
  • Support in coordinating the performance management process for the junior staff.
  • Support in the leave management process i.e., engages with the production staff to ensure that leaves are planned and tracked efficiently.

Health, safety & Environment.

  • Security management; coordinate and evaluate security programs to monitor the factory security risks from inside or outside the factory.
  • Ensure that the production health safety SOPs are followed e.g., wearing of PPEs.

Research and Development.

  • Support in the continuous improvement of projects by conducting ongoing studies/research to improve on the filter performance and/or future products.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree Business Administration, procurement and logistics, accounting or any other related field.
  • 3 years + related experience in the same role.
  • Prior 2 years’ experience in a busy organization in a managerial level.
  • Post graduate and related certifications are an added advantage.
  • Added advantage: experience in stores & Inventory management in FMCGs & house keeping.
