About the Consultancy:
ALIGHT with funding from Atomic Data is currently implementing the Nakivale Community Library Network Project in Nakivale Refugee Settlement. The overall goal of the project is to enhance a sustainable reading culture among children and adults in Nakivale Refugee settlement and the surrounding community. The objectives of the project are;
• To improve reading and writing skills among children and adults in Nakivale
• To enhance capacity of refugees to innovate, recreate and solve day to day life.
• To promote increased enrolment in schools and adult literacy platforms through increased access to educational resources for out of school children and youth.
• To reduce the rates of juvenile delinquency within the settlement through provision of alternative opportunities for free entertainment and constructive recreation activities.
• To develop contextualized reading and illustrative materials for cultural sharing and awareness.
In order to fully achieve objective, we strive to improve the writing skills of the already existing groups like writers’ club members. NCLN team has therefore organized a three-day training for these club members.
1.1: Objectives of the Training
l. To empower writers with skills in story telling
2. To train writers on different writing styles and presentation
3. To enlighten writers on creative writing skills
4. To empower writers on script writing skills
5. To enlighten Writers on Fiction writing
1.2: Tasks of ALIGHT
• Mobilise writers club members (planned participants) for the training
• Secure the training venue.
• Prepare the logistics including meals, refreshments and stationery.
• Provide the consultants and trainees with the necessary stationary for the training.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
1.3: Tasks of the Consultant
- Avail and share some copies of his writings and all the relevant hand-outs to participants.
- Organize his accommodation and dinner during the days of the training.
- Produce a training report in hard and soft copies within five days after the training.
- Facilitate the training as planned in the proposal submitted by the contractor to ALIGHT.
1.4: Deliverables and Schedule
The training is planned to be conducted for three days start 22nd to 24th May 2023 targeting 35 participants from Writers Club & NCLN project team.
1.5: Budget and Payment
- ALIGHT will pay the consultant the full consultancy fee in Uganda Shillings (for 3 days) provided that the training has taken place as described in the consultant’s proposal which has been reviewed and approved by ALIGHT.
- The payment will be made in full upon the completion of the training and the approval of the final report.

REQUIREMENTS
1.7: Qualifications
The following experience and key qualifications are required of the consultant:
- Advanced degree in Journalism, Social Work, Education or similarly appropriate education/professional background.
- Understanding of copyright laws in Uganda.
- Must be an author with over 05 years experiences in writing, editing or publishing.
- Experience organising and leading trainings for diverse communities /nationalities around the continent.
- Fluency in written and spoken English is a must.

Date of Proposal Submission: 16th May 2023 by 3PM ( Submission is online via Email)
This instruction & template for proposal development consists of the following sections:

Please READ and FOLLOW the instructions before completing the proposal form
1. A proposal will not be considered for review if:
- It is received after the deadline
- It is not sealed properly (NA in case of email proposals)
- There are any missing documents mentioned in the ToR
- Information submitted by the company is found to be false
- It is incomplete
2. A proposal should have three (3) submissions (NA in case of email proposals):
- 1st for all the supporting documents as per ToR;
- 2nd for technical proposal
- 3rd for financial proposal
Each of the above envelopes should be sealed, and properly labelled respectively as “supporting documents,” “technical proposal” and “financial proposal.” Each page of the proposal should be stamped and signed. All these will be submitted in one email address Procurement.Kampala@wearealight.org.
- Only shortlisted individuals/firms will be contacted by Alight at each stage of the selection process.
