DanChurchAid (DCA) is looking for two competent professionals to fill the positions of Construction Supervisor on a short-term contract of six months, based in either Yumbe or Arua, West Nile Region, Uganda
 
Job Summary:
Construction Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the progress of DCA’s various construction works (seedbanks, market centers, aggregation centers, water harvesting structures etc.) that are undertaken by different contractors. She/he ensures construction works are carried out according to their design and as per nationally acceptable quality standards, as well as in a timely and cost-effective manner. He/ She is responsible for budgeting, organizing, implementation and scheduling of the projects.
 
Main tasks:

  • Follow up and evaluate technical bidding documents and provide recommendations for the selection process of the construction firm/contractor.
  • Oversee and direct construction projects from conception to completion.
  • Review the contractors work schedules and updates; closely monitor the work progress to ensure compliance with the project duration and cost.
  • Review the project in-depth to schedule deliverables and estimate costs.
  • Oversee all onsite and offsite constructions to monitor compliance with building and safety regulations.
  • Coordinate and direct construction workers and subcontractors if applicable
  • Select tools, materials and equipment and track inventory.
  • Ensure high standards of quality assurance in the execution of work and completion of work within stipulated period.
  • Review the work progress on regular basis. Measure, record, and review payment requests for the executed works submitted by the contractor.
  • Prepare internal and external reports pertaining to job status.
  • Negotiate terms of agreements, draft contracts and obtain permits and licenses.
  • Analyze, manage, and mitigate risks.
  • Carry out comprehensive supervision of projects implementation activities carried out by   the contractors to ensure complete compliance with the drawings, technical specifications and various stipulations contained in the contract documents.
  • Maintain proper filling system for all site memos, instructions, as well as internal /external correspondences, measured quantities of work, materials on site, reports, and other documents pertaining to the construction activities.

 
 
Required Qualifications, skills and experience:
 

    • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, architecture, engineering, or related field.
    • At least three years of relevant work experience
    • Proven working experience in construction management.
    • Advanced knowledge of construction management processes means and method.
    • Expert knowledge of building products, construction details and relevant rules, regulations, and quality standards
    • Understanding of all facets of the construction process
    • Familiarity with construction management software packages
    • Ability to plan and see the “big picture”
    • Competent in conflict and crisis management
    • Leadership and human resources management skills
    • Excellent time and project management
