Environment and Energy Advisor

The LWF Uganda Program is looking for a qualified and experienced person to fill the following position:

 

Job Title:  Environment and Energy Advisor

Place of Assignment:  Kampala Head Office 

Reports To:  Program Coordinator

Starting date: ASAP

Duration of Contract: 1 year contract (with possibility for extension)

The closing date for applications: 9 June 2021

Provide environmental technical expertise to strategic planning and program design – 25%

Develop and coordinate the implementation of country level environmental management framework for LWF activities

Coordinate the development of activity designs, concept papers, and other relevant documents, such as results frameworks, activity packages, budgets, background documentation, and performance monitoring plans.

Apply knowledge of Uganda, regional governments, and donor communities to assess the suitability of activity designs and proposals.

Ensure that LWF Uganda projects give appropriate consideration to climate and environment risks and opportunities in their design and implementation.

Provide technical, advisory and management support on climate resilience, natural resource management and green growth initiatives in the various sub-programs.

Manage and monitor Environmental programming and implementation across the country program – 45%

Foster evaluative thinking, learning, adaptation, and collaboration among staff in the implementation and monitoring of environment, climate resilience, and other Natural Resource management activities.

Provide technical leadership for the integration of Environment and Climate risk management for all sectors.

Monitor activity spending; review and respond to pipeline analysis and provide input on Environment related budgetary issues to management.

Monitor the implementation of climate resilience, environment, and community-based natural resources management activities to ensure the accuracy of their reporting and progress toward meeting project objectives

Cultivate and maintain effective relationships with GOU, the private sector, Civil Society Organizations, and the donor community, as needed – 15%.

Participate in coordination and working group meetings and events and work closely with other development partners to ensure effective coordination.

Represent LWF in designated donor and inter-agency coordination meetings.

Champion advocacy and environmental/ climate governance initiatives at local and national level.

Promote visibility of LWF environmental initiatives using appropriate communication and visibility strategies.

Coordinate and build the capacity of field level environmental staff – 15%

Build the capacity of environmental staff through mentorship, coaching, and training on ENR and climate resilience.

Promote internal learning, reflection and collaborations among environment and energy field staff across the country program

Education, Experience, Skills & Technical Competencies

Masters in any Environment oriented field; Post-graduate qualification in Project Planning and Management or Monitoring and Evaluation is an added advantage; Minimum 5 years’ experience coordinating environment related projects; Demonstrate well-developed interpersonal skills, excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, as well as negotiation skills; Ability to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines; Ability to exercise sound judgment, to remain flexible and make decisions independently.
