Makerere University Walter Reed Project (MUWRP) is a non-profit biomedical research organization, whose mission is to
mitigate disease threats through quality research, health care and disease surveillance. MUWRP was established in 2002
by a Memorandum of Agreement between The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine,
Inc. (HJF) and Makerere University (Mak) to undertake medical research to test HIV vaccines. Over the years, MUWRP’s
portfolio has progressively expanded to include vaccine research for Ebola and Marburg viruses, Emerging Infectious
Diseases Program (EIDP) for surveillance of influenza and influenza-like viruses and other emerging infections in humans
and animals; also a PEPFAR funded program in HIV treatment, care and prevention in the districts of Kayunga, Mukono,
Buvuma and Buikwe. Additionally, MUWRP in collaboration with local and international partners is implementing The Joint
Mobile Emerging Disease Intervention Clinical Capability (JMEDICC) program in Uganda whose purpose is to conduct
FDA regulated clinical trials of therapeutics or diagnostics during an outbreak event of high consequence pathogens
specifically filoviruses. MUWRP seeks to fill the following position: –

POSITION TITLE: Sanitary Officer (1) Position.

LOCATION: – MUWRP – Mukono Field Office

JOB SUMMARY: The candidate will serve as a Sanitary Officer for Makerere University Walter Reed Project field office
in Mukono and will be charged with general cleanliness of all MUWRP – Mukono workstations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Sweeping and mopping floors.
2. Dusting, damp wiping, washing or polishing the furniture, ledges, window sills
3. Keep records of sundries and replenishing consumable items (soap, toilet rolls, paper towels) if required
4. Using chemical agents to clean toilets, urinals, hand basins and sinks.
5. Keep a check on cleaning stock levels and inform the supervisor of low stock levels (e.g. cleaning products)
6. Maintain tidy and organised storage areas.
7. Provide support to staff as requested and in accordance with own training / skill parameters
8. Notify the supervisor of any repairs required
9. Mix and dispose of all cleaning solutions appropriately
10. Spray insecticides and fumigants to prevent insect and rodent infestation.
11. Cleaning Project vehicles and motor bikes
12. Loading and offloading of supplies and equipment when required
13. Perform any other duties as directed by the Supervisors.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
1. At least an ‘O’ Level Certificate
2. Physical fitness
3. The candidate should be innovative and self-driven with good communication skills and proven integrity.
4. High level of responsibility in handling project property
5. Willingness to put in extra time and effort when required is essential.
6. Willingness to be trained in the Standard Operating procedures of jurisdiction
7. Should be willing to start work immediately.
8. Must have a recommendation letter from a MUWRP staff or acceptable responsible person

SUPERVISORY CONTROLS: The Sanitary Officer will serve under the immediate supervision of the Field Administrative
Assistant

PHYSICAL ABILITY: Ability to professionally communicate in writing and verbally or other means deemed appropriate.
