JOB TITLE: Credit Manager
REPORTS TO: Head of Credit
JOB PURPOSE:
- Provide an independent assessment of credit applications; approve applications within delegated authority, make recommendations to the Management Credit Committee on applications above delegated authority.
- Support the Head of Credit in management of the Credit function of the Bank through ensuring sound risk asset quality and a prudent credit culture throughout the lending units, while ensuring that the credit process is responsive to customer needs and credit losses/collection costs are minimized.MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review and approve credit applications within delegated authority and make recommendations to MCCs for applications above delegated authority.
- Positively contribute to a sound risk asset quality and a prudent credit culture throughout the bank, while ensuring the credit process is responsive to customer needs and credit losses and collection costs are minimized.
- Ensure the Bank’s compliance with regulatory requirements in the areas of credit, and with internal policies, procedures and underwriting standards.
- Contribute to regular review the Bank’s credit portfolio to recommend /implement relevant strategic interventions and effective dimensions on portfolio risk management especially in line with Bank’s growth strategy.
- Attend and contribute to management meetings on discussions on the Bank’s credit portfolio.
- Ensure that credit delivery is effective, responsive and customer satisfaction measures are high.
- Support regular review of the Bank’s Credit policies, procedures and processes, and recommend /implement changes where appropriate.
- Contribute to the bank’s profitability by ensuring optimum risk-reward profile of risk asset proposals.
- Provide credit training support to Credit and Business teams.
MINIMUM ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of bachelor’s degree in business related subject or its equivalent.
- Professional banking, Insurance and Accounting qualification will give an added advantage
WORK EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of 6 years banking experience with not less than 3 years in a credit approval position
- 2 years leadership experience
KEY COMPETENCIES (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):
- Demonstrate a proven ability to analyze credit proposals
- Understanding of business trends & credit risk management trends in the financial services industry
- Ability to understand and analyze financial & cash-flow statements and make useful deductions for decision-making
- Good coordination skills, strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Strong organizational and people management skills
