POSITION: Animal Nutritionist
REPORTS TO: Head of Animal Feed
DEPARTMENT: Animal Feed
LOCATION: Bugolobi, Kampala
JOB SUMMARY
The Animal Nutritionist will provide nutrition services and livestock management
recommendations as well as technical advice and support to customers during and after
product sales. The Nutritionist will also provide consulting services and products in a
manner that will be profitable to both the customer and Grainpulse Limited.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Provide ration formulation using clearly defined protocols and principles
• Maintain and update ration balancing software models and ingredient libraries
• Provide technical support, training, and solutions to Animal Feed Sales
Representatives and customers through farm visits
• Handle production challenges, such as developing substitute ingredient options
• Assist the Head of Animal Feed to measure supplier performance on key
performance indicators
• Understand and keep up to date on local feed regulations and changes
• Develop effective customer feeding programs to abet healthy animal performance
• Any other duties may be assigned from time to time
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
The ideal candidate must possess at least a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science,
however, possession of a Bachelor’s degree in a related field i.e., Animal production/
husbandry is strongly desired. Possession of a Masters in animal nutrition is preferred.
In addition, he or she must have a minimum of 2 years of livestock, farm or nutrition
advisory or related industry experience and with extensive experience in livestock
feeding programs.
The ideal candidate must possess knowledge and experience in using feed formulation
software (i.e., Bestmix etc.), have the ability to enforce and maintain robust quality
control measures for raw material inputs, as well as possess sound knowledge of
livestock production and management and a thorough understanding of the local
industry.
Furthermore, he or she must possess technical experience in use of animal feed
formulation software, identify and troubleshoot changes in animal performance,
evaluate opportunity ingredients with feed formulation team and also record and
communicate customer results.
The ideal candidate must exhibit professionalism, excellent time management,
interpersonal relationship and financial management skills. He or she must possess a
solid business acumen with an aptitude for technology. Further still the ideal candidate
must be results oriented, with the flexibility to undertake field travel for on-farm
interactions or producer facilities. He or she must be able to communicate in English
and Luganda.
