Media in Cooperation and Transition (MiCT) is a German non-profit organisation that implements media development projects in crisis regions. Activities focus on the interplay between conflict, media coverage and reconciliation. MiCT’s services comprise the training of journalists and media producers, programme and content development, radio and film production, magazine and book publishing, as well as media research and monitoring in conflict regions.
“Strengthening Media Capacities and Networks in the Nile Basin” aims to amplify balanced and constructive narratives around water resource management and cooperation in the Nile Basin region. The project is a collaboration between Media in Cooperation and Transition (MiCT), the Nile Basin Initiative (NBI), and other partners.
The project’s overall objective is to strengthen media capacities and networks in the Nile Basin to support constructive and solution-oriented approaches to water-related conflicts in the Nile Basin.
The specific objectives of the project are:
- To reach a broad audience of Nile Basin citizens with in-depth, fact-based and constructive reporting on Nile Basin issues.
- To strengthen and expand the existing network of multimedia Nile Basin journalists and media organisations, widening ownership over the network to include more stakeholders and journalists in the region.
- To generate incentives for journalists and media houses to engage in more fact-based and constructive reporting on Nile Basin issues.
The Project Coordinator will be instrumental in ensuring the achievement of the project goals, managing various project activities, including coordination of the Nile Basin Media Network, overseeing MiCT’s involvement in the Nile Media Awards, and generating a weekly media radar.
Key Responsibilities:
- Overall Project Coordination
- Develop project plans and timelines.
- Liaise with project stakeholders, including donors and partners.
- Oversee project budgeting and financial reporting, in close collaboration with project controller.
- Coordinate project evaluations and reporting.
- Troubleshoot project issues and implement solutions promptly.
- Nile Basin Media Network Coordination
- Facilitate communication among network members and stakeholders.
- Identify and onboard potential partners for network activities.
- Oversee the development and implementation of the Network Charter, membership criteria, and secretariat functions.
- Coordinate the kick-off meeting with network members and stakeholders.
- Support to the Nile Media Awards 2023
- Act as MiCT’s focal point in planning and execution of the Nile Media Awards 2023.
- Coordinate with NBI on concept, partnerships, and evaluation processes.
- Oversee the award ceremony preparations and execution.
- Prepare and facilitate a webinar on the topic of media in the Nile Basin.
- Weekly Nile Basin Media Radar
- Curate and publish weekly summaries of media coverage related to the Nile Basin.
- Disseminate the radar to project partners and stakeholders
Requirements:
- Minimum Master’s Degree in Journalism, Media Studies, Development Studies, International Relations, Environmental Politics or related fields.
- At least 5 years of experience in project coordination in cross-border projects related to Nile Basin water management and politics.
- Experience in media or journalism related projects is preferred.
- Proven existing networks of journalists, media houses and media organisations in the Nile Basin.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
